Purpose Statement

The job of Athletic Director is done for the purpose/s of directing the athletics program and activities, providing information and serving as a resource to others; achieving defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing, implementing and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines; and serving as a member of the leadership team.

 

This job reports to Superintendent.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including utilizing pertinent software applications; planning and managing projects and programs; overseeing program financial activities; developing effective working relationships; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and administering personnel policies and procedures; applying job- related codes, regulations and laws; conducting financial transactions; conducting meetings; enforcing rules and regulations; promoting activities and/or events.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; personnel processes; standard business practices; school safety and security practices; Five (5) years increasing coaching experience at high school varsity and collegiate levels; Experiential knowledge of overall operation of an athletic program.
ABILITY 
is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: providing leadership, direction, and team building; communicating with persons of varied educational and cultural backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with individuals from diverse professional backgrounds; working independently under time constraints to meet deadlines and schedules; organizing and communicating information and concepts; setting priorities; working as part of a team; analyzing situations and making accurate decisions; working with multiple projects; dealing with frequent interruptions and changing work priorities; working with detailed information/data and maintaining accurate records; maintaining confidentiality; and facilitating communication between persons with frequently divergent positions; displaying tact and courtesy.

 

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives; managing a department; directing the use of budgeted funds within a work unit. utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 35% sitting, 30% walking, and 35% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in a generally hazard free environment.

 

 

Experience      Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.

Education        Masters degree in job-related area.
